This workshop will show faith leaders how Substance Use Disorder is often a manifestation of unmet community needs. By understanding the seven vital community factors and the social determinants of health, faith leaders can break the stigma of addiction, foster empathy, and address the root causes. Attending this session will empower you to be a voice for change, offering not just spiritual guidance but practical solutions for those in need.

About the instructor
Dr. William Cooke

Born and raised in Jeffersonville, Indiana, Dr. William Cooke graduated from IU Southeast in 1994 before going on to graduate with honors from IU School of Medicine in 2001 and the Ball Memorial Family Medicine residency in 2004. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Family Medicine and the American Society of Addiction Medicine specializing in Family Medicine, Addiction Medicine, and HIV Medicine. He has received multiple awards for his approaches to addressing the needs of people in resource-poor communities, as well as spearheading efforts to respond to the 2015 HIV outbreak in the United States.
