Discover Sojourners: Connecting Faith with Real-Life Challenges

Ever wonder how faith can connect to real-life issues? We hear this question all the time at the Center for Congregations, and it’s no surprise. Like many others, you want to make a positive impact, starting right in your neighborhood.

That’s where Sojourners comes in as a resource for your congregation. Back in the 1970s, a group of students at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School grappled with the same question: how can faith translate into action? Their journey led them to become Sojourners, a thriving community dedicated to serving God in often-overlooked neighborhoods.

Sojourners grew and became a top-notch magazine and online hub. Using faith as a lens, they advocate for those facing poverty. Their website overflows with thought-provoking content that empowers congregations to tackle evolving social issues.

Yes, you can only access some articles by subscribing. Yet, there are many other selections you can choose from, including my favorite at this time, titled “Joining a Church (or Knitting Club) Could End the Loneliness Epidemic.”

Ready to make a real difference in your community? Sojourners is a fantastic starting point. Through the Center’s Congregational Resource Guide (CRG), you can learn about them and then make your own journey to their website. You can delve straight into their latest articles and blogs.

How does faith connect to real-life issues? One place to start is to learn about Sojourners. After all, we are all on a journey; part of congregations that can do so much good in this world we share.
