Supporting and Healing after Infant Loss

Supporting and Healing after Infant Loss

PKLearn ways to respond, comfort and support those in your congregation who have experienced stillbirth, miscarriage and infant loss. It is statistically likely that this has happened recently in your congregation, but the silence is often deafening as you and others struggle to know how to help. In this live online workshop, Kristen and Patrick Riecke, authors of No Matter How Small: Understanding Miscarriage and Stillbirth, will help you learn how to openly address this topic and support healing.

This is a two-part workshop. It is beneficial for you to attend both events, but it is not necessary to attend them both to benefit from the information.

Part 1 will explore what to say, or not say, to the mom or dad whose baby just died, what options parents and others have at the time of loss for making memories, as well as both practical and emotional questions.

You will learn:

  • ways to respond with compassion and resources when your congregants experience miscarriage or stillbirth.
  • how to identify more completely with the feelings of bereaved parents.
  • ways to articulate some of the specific experiences parents face immediately after a baby dies.

Part 2 will cover how to support grieving parents in the months and years after their loss, and develop systems of care with support groups, follow up, and awareness. You will explore how you can help people remember their lost little ones while also moving forward in their lives.

You will learn:

  • to articulate some of the specific experiences parents face longer-term after a baby dies.
  • how to help grieving parents memorialize their baby.
  • about developing systems of care for bereaved parents.

Date and time: Part 1 is 1:30-3 p.m. (Eastern) Wednesday, October 28, 2020, and Part 2 is 1:30-3 p.m. (Eastern) Tuesday, November 17, 2020
