Grants and Mentoring

Each month, the Center for Congregations awards matching grants to congregations throughout Indiana. In this brief article, I will share a glimpse into one project recently funded by the Center's matching grants program, and introduce you to an organization which might have relevance to your congregation.

The topics of grant projects funded by the Center for Congregations run the gamut of issues related to congregational life – building, fundraising campaigns, leadership development, youth ministry, children’s ministry, community engagement – just to name a few.

elmoreRecently, Pathway Community Church in Fort Wayne contacted the Center for Congregations about their goal to develop their whole congregation by working on mentorship: older adults mentoring young adults, young adults mentoring youth. The church received a grant to help pay for the fees associated with those activities. Church leadership engaged a guest speaker and consultant named Dr. Tim Elmore, founder of Growing Leaders, a national nonprofit organization which offers tools and comprehensive programs that promote healthy character and leadership development in the next generation.

Pathway Community Church hosted Dr. Elmore at their church, where he spoke with the entire congregation on a Sunday morning. Pathway’s leaders are now implementing Dr. Elmore’s and Growing Leaders’ principles and curriculum. You can watch Dr. Elmore’s presentation at Pathway Community Church here.
