Exploring the Longevity Revolution: Ministry with Older Adults

Richard Gentzler
Thursday, October 21, 2010 in the Fort Wayne area
Friday, October 22, 2010 in the Indianapolis area

Until rather recently in human history, very few people grew old.  Today, with a low infant mortality rate, advanced medical technology, better nutrition and a host of other variables, more people are living longer.  As a result, we are fast
becoming an aging society.  And congregations need to adjust to meet the needs of aging members.

In the workshop Exploring the Longevity Revolution, Richard Gentzler helps resource church leaders in their ministries with older adults. Gentzler discusses aging in today’s culture and the myths and realities of aging today. In addition, workshop participants will identify spiritual needs of older adults and examine steps for developing comprehensive ministry by, with, and for these aging congregants.  The workshop also includes information about various ministry models for older adults.

Gentzler is the director of the Center on Aging and Older Adult Ministries of the General Board of Discipleship of The United Methodist Church.  An author, speaker and seminar leader, Gentzler is nationally recognized as a teacher, writer and leader in the field of aging and older adult ministries.  His latest book is Aging and Ministry in the 21st Century: An Inquiry Approach.

Exploring the Longevity Revolution is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday, October 21, 2010 in the Fort Wayne area and Friday, October 22, 2010 in the Indianapolis area. More specific location information will be available soon. The cost is $30 a person (or $25 a person for congregational teams of three or more). The fee includes lunch and a copy of Gentzler’s book.
