Building a Neighborhood

Nurturing Faith and Family Life

Diana Garland
Wednesday, October 28, Brownsburg
Thursday, October 29, Evansville

In this workshop, Diana Garland leads participants in exploring how to develop a vibrant ministry to and through families. Garland expands on her idea that community service is more important than anything else congregations can do to build the faith of families. She discusses how and why families serve and the impact in their lives. Garland draws on extensive research with families in congregations to explore answers to the following questions:

  • Who are the families in our congregations behind the Sunday morning smiles?
  • What do families today need and want from congregations?
  • How can congregations support families’ resilience in the face of life challenges and crises?
  • How can congregations develop a vibrant faith-life in families that leads to deeper, more robust faith in adults and a “sticky” faith in children and youths—a faith that helps children and adolescents “stick” to their faith and the church as they move into adulthood?

The workshop provides opportunity to develop concrete plans for the ministry of your congregation.

Dr. Garland is a well-known family scholar and has pioneered research in the integration of faith and service in congregations and in religiously affiliated organizations.

Nurturing Faith and Family Life is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, October 28, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Brownsburg and Thursday, October 29, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 5501 Washington Avenue, Evansville.
