Christian Piatt explored Staying Connected in a Facebook World in February 2009 at Seymour and Mooresville. Understanding and engaging young adults can be a challenge for congregations. With the explosion of interactive, web-based communities and social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and others, many congregations face the task of updating communications skills and methods to stay connected with younger people and families.
Christian Piatt talked about young adult experiences and perceptions of church, faith, spirituality and community. He’ll talk about terms such as “emergent church,” “post-institutional/post denominational,” “social networking” and “spiritual but not religious.” Piatt gave a God Image survey and helped participants to understand the results. He shared practical ideas for developing meaningful faith-based community for young adults
The author of MySpace to Sacred Space: God for a New Generation and a columnist with Disciples World, Piatt examines how congregations can use these online social networks and
Web 2.0 as tools to develop a sense of community, while still nurturing people toward more meaningful face-to-face relationships.
